MECHANISM OF TiC FORMATION IN LIQUID ALUMINIUM

Abstract: The mechanism of in situ formation of TiC phase in liquid aluminium during the contact reaction was studied in the present work. The results show that TiC phase forms through two reactions, i.e., 3Al+Ti→Al3 Ti and Al3 Ti+C→TiC+3Al. Itis proposed that aluminium acts as a catalyst activating the reaction of TiC formation.
